Description:

Manufactured by Edward Barnes & Sons of Sheffield, England c. 1856-1865. The knife shows typical characteristics of Sheffield knives of the era that were manufactured for export to the United States. The overall length with blade extended is 9 1/8 inches with a 4 1/8 inch blade, and lockback mechanism in the spine. The left side of the blade is stamped with "U*S", a marking which is repeated on the left ricasso along with "EDWARD/BARNES/&SONS". The grips are smooth horn with a German silver insert on the left, German silver bolster, and scalloped and grape vine motif German silver pommel.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with the blade is showing mostly a bright grey patina and attractive antique patina on the German silver. The grips are good with some moderate wear and some grinding marks. Lockback mechanism functions properly.
