In operation as G. Crookes & Co. in Sheffield from c. 1836-1856. The overall length with the larger blade unfolded is 10 1/8 inches, the larger spear point blade measuring 4 5/8 inches, and the smaller penknife blade 2 3/8 inches. Both blades are marked "G. CROOKES/& Co./SHEFFIELD" on the left ricasso. The blade is secured with a spring-loaded lockback lever, the grip panels are smooth with German silver insert on the left, and German silver floral patterned pommel and guard. Similar examples from Sheffield firms on p. 396 of "The Bowie Knife: Unsheathing an American Legend" by Flayderman.

Rating Definition:

Fine, the sharpened and blades are mostly bright with a few patches of scattered light pitting and spotting of grey patina, and an attractive antique patina on the German silver. The grip panels have some age related hairline cracks. The locking mechanism is in good order.
