Chief Michael R. Curtis of the BATFE Firearms Technology Industry Services Branch, previously noted that there are "approximately 200" of these smoothbore rolling block pistols which were redesigned to fire a shot shell version of the .50 Remington cartridge by either Remington or outside parties. It has the standard sights and the "REMINGTON'S ILION. N.Y. U.S.A./PAT. MAY 3D NOV. 15TH 1864. APRIL 17TH 1866" marking on the left side of the frame. "77" is marked on the upper strap and on the grip, and the assembly number "492" is on both the upper and lower straps.

Fine with 30% original blue finish on the barrel, 70% original niter blue on the trigger, 40% original case colors, minor oxidation/pitting, distinct markings, smooth oiled finish on the wood, some small dings and scratches, a small repaired chip on the right corner of the grip behind the trigger guard, and general mild age and storage related wear. Mechanically excellent.
