Description:

These New Model Army revolvers were manufactured from 1863-1875. They were the second most widely issued revolvers by the Union during the Civil War and continued to be issued into the Indian Wars. This example is very fine, especially for a Civil War era military contract revolver, given most show heavy wear and finish loss. It has standard markings including government inspection marks, "OWA" and GRC" cartouches on the grips, period applied initials "AWK" stamped in the butt of the grips, and matching serial number (120661) on the trigger guard, grips, and frame. The barrel is a period replacement with "D" inspection mark numbered "109470".

Rating Definition:

Fine as assembled (see above), retains 50% plus original blue finish mixed with a mostly brown patina, traces of original case colors on the hammer, and an attractively aged patina on the brass trigger guard. The grips are also fine with some light dings and scratches, a few minor dents and chips, and clear cartouches. The action is somewhat stiff (likely due to grease) but otherwise mechanically fine.
