Description:

Manufactured in 1957 and subsequently embellished by renowned Master Engraver Alvin White who has signed his masterpiece with his gold highlighted trademark cartouche on the right side of the grip strap. The engraving consists of White's masterful relief floral scrollwork enhanced by gold and silver inlay. The frame, cylinder, back strap and trigger guard are almost completely covered. The ejector rod housing has about 2/3 coverage and the barrel about half. The sides of the front sight and hammer are engraved. The frame and cylinder are outlined in gold inlay. Silver and gold bands are on barrel at the muzzle and breech and rear of the cylinder. The sides of the hammer are polished bright and feature scrollwork. The gold buffalo scull on the recoil shield has silver horns. The raised relief gold inlaid rattlesnake on the back strap is crawling over a silver rope. There is a pair of raised relief gold inlaid spurs on the loading gate. All of these gold embellishments have engraved details. The back strap has a bracket at the top in silver and a bracket at the bottom in gold. Between these two brackets is an inscription that reads, "to my friend Roger Conger/from Romaine Fielding" followed by "Christmas/1957." Conger and Fielding were both collectors who did a lot of non-gun business together. Fielding was the California distributor for Conger's Waco, Texas, based Hammond Laundry Cleaning Machinery and Supply Company. A finely detailed, relief carved steer head is featured on the right grip panel. The carving is by White and the back of the panel is signed "A.A. WHITE/ENG." Matching assembly number "112" is on the loading gate, back of the frame and front cylinder face. Matching serial numbers are on the frame and both grip straps on the left side. Comes with a profusely floral tooled leather bound case containing a cartridge block.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine as highly embellished by renowned Master Engraver Alvin White, retaining 99% plus of the blue finish showing a light cylinder drag line and limited handling marks. The vast majority of the original case colors remain with areas silvering out. The engraving is crisp. The grips are near mint with minimal minor handling marks and a crisp carving. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine showing some minor handling/storage marks and typical high spot wear on the suede lining. A true masterpiece and a must for any Alvin White or American engraved arms collector!
