Description:

This is a very rare example of an authentic WWII Model 1911A1 Pistol that was manufactured by the Singer Manufacturing Company during WWII. Under the Ordnance Educational Order No. W-ORD-396, the Singer Manufacturing Company only produced 500 pistols total, with almost all of them issued to the U.S. Army Air Corps. With such an extremely low total number produced and the high attrition rate during WWII, survival rate of original Singer M1911A1 is extremely low and they are highly sought after by collectors. This specific pistol retains it original WWII blued finish which is also extremely rare along with the early hollow-back brown plastic grips. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the two line address: "S. MFG. CO./ELIZABETH, N.J., U.S.A.", with no markings on the right side. The top of the slide is stamped with a "P" proofmark that is oriented toward the left side of the slide, and the slide is correctly not stamped with the pistol serial number. The frame is stamped: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No S800257" with "M 1911 A1 U.S.ARMY" towards the front of the frame. The left side is stamped with the initials of Col. John K. Clement (JKC), the executive officer of the New York Ordnance District, and a single "P" proofmark is stamped above the magazine release button. The pistol is fitted with the correct wide spur hammer with borderless checkering, checkered thumb safety, slide stop, and mainspring housing. It is fitted with the smooth side trigger and the checkered face. It is fitted with a correct type of early WWII checkered plastic grips with the full checkering on both sides, with no reinforcing rings with the hollow backsides with no reinforcing ribs or mold markings. It is fitted with a blued replacement barrel that is stamped with a "P" proof on the right lug and a late WWII all blued replacement magazine. The lip of the floorplate is stamped with a single letter "L".

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% of the original blue finish remaining overall with thinning on the front grip strap and main spring housing. The right side of the slide show very fine pin-prick type pitting, behind the ejection port and on the lower front edge behind the recoil spring housing. The correct grips are in fine condition with distinct checking overall with heavier wear along the lower edges of the grips. A solid example of an authentic WWII Singer U.S. M1911A1 U.S. Army contract semi-automatic pistol.
