Description:

These carbines were based on pre-Civil War designs by Major General Ambrose Burnside. Approximately 43,000 of these "Model of 1864" Fifth Model carbines with the distinctive guide screw at the center of the frame were manufactured circa 1863-1865, and this example shows the standard markings and features. Consecutively serial numbered with the previous lot.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% plus original blue and 85% vivid casehardened finish, minor spotting, and light scratches. The wood is excellent and has mild dings and scratches, dark oiled finish, distinct cartouches, and some slight flakes at the edges. Mechanically excellent.
