Description:

10,500 of these "side lever" Hall carbines were manufactured by Simeon North in 1844-1853. The 1st and 2nd U.S. Dragoons were among the units issued these carbines during the Mexican-American War, and more than half are believed to have been rifled for use in the Civil War, making original smoothbore examples like this scarce. It has the standard blade and notch sights, "JH" on the left side of the barrel at the breech, "U.S./S. NORTH/MIDLTN/CONN./1845" on the breechblock, and a pair of cartouches on the stock.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 60% plus brown finish, light original case colors, 70% nitre blue colors on the lever and lever spring, a few patches of pitting/oxidation, mild scratches and dings, and distinct markings. The stock is also very fine and has some scattered scrapes and dents, faint cartouches, and minor edge wear.
