Description:

This is a very fine example of a commercial copy of the famous M60 machine gun as manufactured by the J.P. Foote & Co, of Marietta, GA. The original M60 MGs, were developed in the late 1950/early 1960s as a replacement for the ageing 1919A4 MG and was the main general purpose/medium machine gun for use at the squad and platoon level in all US Branches. They were heavily used during the Vietnam War by all Infantry, Air Assault and Airborne units. They remained in service until the mid 1980s, eventually being replaced by the M249 SAW and the M240G Medium MG. They fired from an open bolt mechanism using a disintegrating metal ammunition belt and was the first US Army weapon to have a quick change barrel. The left rear side of the receiver is marked "J.P. FOOTE & CO./MARIETTA GA,/M-60 .,308/SR NR 701". The barrel is also correctly stamped with a "P" and "M" indicting that this barrel was correctly proofed fired and magnetic-particle inspected, followed by "26968-7269026 9 93 25962". It is fitted with a fixed, high, front sight, with the folding adjustable rear sight graduated from 300-1100 meters. Equipped with a folding bipod and approximately 100 metal disintegrating belt links.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus original parkerized finish overall with evidence of light firing with some firing residue around the gas piston housing, with wear on the top cover. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
