Description:

This is an excellent example of a highly desirable Vickers Pattern MkI heavy machine gun that has been assembled on a Charles Erb receiver. An evolution of the Maxim Gun, the Vickers was a well refined heavy machine gun, with a water cooling system that permitted long strings of automatic fire without overheating. This particular example shows parts from mixed sources, with the rear sight graduated for the 303 British round and the belt mechanism marked for the 7.9mm cartridge. Blade front and folding peep rear sight, with an additional "web" style anti-aircraft sight mounted in a slot on the rear of the water jacket and a folding fixed sight on the receiver cover. The Erb "bullet" logo is present on the left side plate, with mixed numbers and a pair of hardwood "spade" grips. Included with the item are a steel flash hider that fits over and around the recoil booster, a green painted brass and steel tripod with swiveling, elevation adjustable cradle, and a green painted steel pintle extension.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 70% of the refurbished blue finish, showing areas of brown patina, mild wear and handling marks. The grips show mild dings and scuffs, and the tripod shows light wear. Mechanically needs adjustment. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
