Description:

The included letter from Arms Researcher Richard Milner (of the United Kingdom) indicates the sales record for this revolver is in one of the missing books, but it does indicate the factory production index books list this revolver as assembled and warehoused on January 3, 1905 and was sold in August of 1905. Milner also indicates the "A. Brooke." inscribed on the back strap may signify ownership by 2nd Lieutenant Arthur Brooke of the Indian Army (commissioned August 3, 1905), 2nd Lieutenant Alan Francis Brooke of the Royal Artillery (commissioned December 24, 1902), or 2nd Lieutenant Augustus Henry Brooke of the 4th Dragoon Guards (commissioned October 28, 1903). He believes Arthur Brooke is the most likely candidate since his commission date is in the same period as the revolver's sale date, and it was standard that officer's bought their sidearms and other equipment when they were commissioned. The other two men were commissioned earlier and should have already had their equipment, but they could have been upgrading their equipment. These interesting revolvers were designed by Lt. Col. G. V. Fosbery and utilize a novel "automatic" mechanism that turns the cylinder and cocks the hammer by harnessing recoil which drives the upper assembly rewards in a similar fashion to the slide of a semi-automatic pistol. This mechanism allows for faster firing while maintaining the low trigger pull of a single action revolver. The Fosbery design was reported to have been as fast if not faster than its magazine fed counterparts in regard to the rate of fire and as fast to load if a speed loader was used. It has a blade front sight, rear sight integral to the top strap latch, "WEBLEY·FOSBERY" on the left side of the top strap, the "winged bullet/W&S" trademark followed by "455 CORDITE" on the left side of the frame, "1830" on the right side of the frame, partial matching serial number "830" on the front of the cylinder, safety lever on the left side of the frame, checkered hard rubber grips, and a lanyard loop on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% plus original blue finish showing some light fading from age and use most notable along the back strap, small barely noticeable specks of faint pitting/spotting, and general minor wear. The grips are also very fine and have crisp checkering, minor aging, and light handling wear. Mechanically excellent.
