Description:

This is an excellent example of a very rare early Mauser Oberndorf manufactured Luger pistol. This model of Luger has a mix of both left over parts from the DWM factory and new production Mauser that were assembled to fulfill some early 1930s commercial contracts as well as being used to fulfill some early Nazi Police and/or Army contracts. On page 350 of the book "The Mauser Parabellum" by Hallock/Van De Kant, they identify a small block of 90 Lugers as the first block of pistols issued to the early Nazi Police in the serial number range 33v-1332v which they termed 1934 Oberndorf Models, with this specific pistol being produced in the middle of that production. This rare example does not have the Police sear safety as required by the Prussian law of 1933 which may indicate that it was actually intended for a small Army Contract and or a Commercial sale to a high ranking individual in the military. The front toggle still retains the old "DWM" markings with the left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel and left side of the breech block being stamped with a slightly larger and more stylized "Crown/U" proof with no other proofmarks on the pistol. It has a commercial style serial number placement with the full serial number on the frame and underside of the barrel with the last two digits (98) on the side plate, trigger, takedown lever and rear toggle block. It is fitted with unnumbered coarse checkered (new Mauser pattern) walnut grips and is complete with one unnumbered wood base magazine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus with 99% of the blue finish overall with a hint of edge and high spot wear with some minor scratches/thinning on the lower front grip strap. The walnut grips are also in excellent plus condition with nice sharp distinct checkering overall. A truly extraordinary 1924 Mauser Obernodorf Luger pistol!
