Description:

In 1879 the Japanese Navy took possession of two orders of New Model No. 3s. This revolver was part of the second order for 600 units numbered in the 9001-9600 serial number range and is one of the finest Japanese Navy New Model No. 3s known to exist. The underside of the frame has the Japanese Navy anchor marking featuring two wavy lines. Fitted with a spur trigger guard and cylinder numbered to another gun. Mismatched parts are commonly found on these Japanese contract revolvers. Matching serial numbers on the butt, barrel and barrel latch.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. Some silvered out original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger guard. The grips are very good with dings and scratches and some blemishes in the checkering. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
