Description:

Developed based on field observation and soldier feedback, the 1942 smock pattern introduced tabs for suspending additional camouflage material, as well as a pair of integral pockets (instead of just slits in the smock for reaching tunic pockets). This smock is printed in a double sided pattern, green/brown/black "summer" colors on one side, burnt orange/brown/black "autumn" on the reverse, with sets of stitched-on matching colored tabs about the chest, shoulders and back, drawstring neck, elastic waist and cuffs, and a pair of reversible herringbone twill pockets with camouflage flaps and metal buttons. This specific tunic can be seen as "Figure C" on page 103 of "Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen-SS" by Michael Beaver. A SS field cap in this sale (Lot [CWG913]) appears to be made of the same pattern of Plane Tree material.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall. Two out of three of the foliage tabs are absent from the center rear of both the summer and autumn sides of the smock, and some mild wear and a few small holes are visible overall.
