Description:

Introduced in 1878. The left side of the grip frame has a factory April 1954 return date ("454") and a factory rework star. Matching serial numbers are on the butt, cylinder, barrel, and barrel latch. Two-line barrel rib marking ends with the reissue patent date. Comes with a period correct and proper scarce shoulder stock featuring nickel plated attaching hardware and hard rubber S&W buttplate. The accompanying factory letter identifies this revolver as an Australian government contract New Model No. 3 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel, nickel finish, cut for a shoulder stock and checkered black hard rubber grips. It was shipped with 30 units along with stocks on January 31, 1888 and delivered to McLean Brothers & Rigg Co., Sidney, Australia.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 98% of the factory reapplied nickel plating and case colors showing minimal handling marks and limited pitting under the finish. The grips are very good with numerous handling marks mostly near/on the bottom and some blemishes in the checkering. Mechanically excellent. The stock retains 97% plus of the nickel plating and has some scattered minor handling marks on the wood. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
