Manufactured from 1876 to the 1880s, with this revolver being an early model example with the open top frame, scoop type cylinder flutes, wedge in front of the cylinder pin housing below the barrel and bird head grips. The front sight is a blade integral to the barrel and the rear sight is a "V" notch just ahead of the hammer on the frame. The top of the barrel is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & Co. New York, U.S.A. Pat. Jan. 24. Apr. 21. Dec. 15.74. Aug. 3.75 July 11.76. Apr. 17. 77. Pat's Mar.6. 77." and "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich, Conn. U.S.A." is on the left side. The frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER" followed by "1873." The serial number is on the butt and the assembly number (413) is on the rear cylinder face and frame under the left grip. The cylinder and barrel feature a factory floral engraving, with the frame featuring the same engraving with an added checkerboard motif and a dog head on the side plate. The revolver is nickel with casehardened hammer and trigger guard and fitted with pearl grips.

Excellent. The revolver retains 97% plus original nickel finish showing some minor flaking (mostly on the back strap). The hammer and trigger guard retain flashes of original case colors, otherwise faded to a smooth gray. The grips are fine with a large chip near the top (left panel). The pearl has a very attractive color. Mechanically fine.
