Description:

This model was first shipped on November 5, 1878, and were manufactured in fairly limited numbers. It has military style blade front and notch and folding leaf rear sights, a long forearm with a steel cap and secured by a single "U" marked barrel band, a saddle ring on the left, a serpentine lever, and smooth buttstock with a crescent steel buttplate with a brass door and empty compartment for a cleaning rod. The barrel is marked "G. W. MORSE/PATENTED OCT. 28TH 1856" and "45 CAL. 70 GR. C.F." The upper tang is marked "A. BURGESS/PATENTED JANY. 7TH 1873/PATENTED OCT. 19TH 1875." The serial number is marked inside the action on the floor plate and on the left side of the upper and lower tangs.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 20% original blue concentrated on the sides of the frame and in the protected areas, smooth brown patina on the balance, minor oxidation, and general minor wear. The wood is also very good and has smooth re-oiled finish, light dings and scratches, and some edge wear. Mechanically fine.
