Description:

Manufactured in 1893 and subsequently restored to current specification. Standard two line address on top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight and ""38-56/W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-", and the lower tang is marked with the two line, two patent dates directly behind the trigger, with the serial number behind the lever. Block base blade front and folding ladder rear sights. Two barrel bands, and saddle ring and stud on the left rear of the receiver. Blue barrel and magazine, and casehardened receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent rifle buttplate. The accompanying Winchester Gun Museum letter verifies the carbine configuration, caliber and shipped date of January 7, 1893 to unknown buyer and destination. However it doesn't mention the crescent rifle style butt.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored 98% blue and casehardened finish remaining, showing some mild muzzle wear, a small area of silver/gray on the left side of the receiver and overall some light handling marks. The highly varnished replacement wood shows a few minor dings and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. Provenance: The Brandhorst Collection.
