Manufactured circa 1920 and subsequently professionally embellished. Each side of the muzzle end of the barrel, the breech end of the barrel, receiver and lever are nicely decorated with floral vine and punch dot engraving with a gold inlaid wire band around the muzzle and breech end of the barrel and gold wire inlaid bordering on the receiver. In addition there is a scene of two squirrels in a tree in an oval panel on the left side of the receiver and five rabbits in an oval panel field scene. The underside of the receiver directly ahead of the lever is signed "Engr/L - ShERmAN". The two line address is marked on the left side of the barrel in the area where a rear sight would normally be found, "22 SHORT" at the breech and the Winchester oval proof on top of the barrel at the breech. There is a "crown/BNP" British proof mark on the underside of the receiver and barrel at the muzzle end. Raised ramp front sight and no provisions for a rear sight. All blue finish and mounted with a replacement walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with contrasting forend and grip cap, checkering and oak leaf carving on the forearm and stock wrist, cheek piece, a wedge of oak leaf and acorn carving on the left side toe area and flat checkered steel buttplate.

Very fine as professionally embellished with 99% plus blue finish and gold inlay remaining. There are some imperfections in the stock finish, otherwise only a few minor dings and handling marks. The carving and checkering are very crisp. The markings and engraving remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
