Description:

Around 15,000 Whitney-Kennedy rifles and carbines were manufactured by the Whitney Arms Co. around 1879-1886. This is a later example with the loop lever we more commonly associate with lever action firearms. It has a nickel-silver "knife blade" style front sight, an adjustable sporting rear sight, "WHITNEY KENNEDY MF'D BY/WHITNEY ARMS CO NEW HAVEN. C.T. U.S.A." on top ahead of the rear sight, "32 CAL" on top at the breech, the two-line patent marking on the upper tang, "S310" on the lower tang, "310" on the lever, a smooth stock and forearm, and later style buttplate similar to that used on the Whitney-Scharf.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% original blue finish, strong original case colors on the hammer, smooth brown patina on the balance, minor oxidation, and general mild wear. The wood is also very good and has smooth oiled finish, light scratches and pressure marks, and some tiny flakes at the edges of the wrist. Mechanically excellent.
