Manufactured circa 1870, with production numbers estimated at only a few thousand. The frame has about 50% coverage floral scroll engraving on each side. The top of the barrel is marked "BALLARD'S" and the left side of the barrel is marked with the three-line C. H. Ballard & Co. address and patent marking.

Very good plus, retains about 30% of the thinned blue finish and 25% original silver plating in sheltered areas and on the bottom of the frame with the balance showing a brown-grey patina and an attractive antique patina on the brass. The grips are also fine with some age related discoloration and cracking. Mechanically excellent.
