Description:

These rifles were designed by marksman and Remington mechanical department superintendent Lewis L. Hepburn. This very attractive special order No. 3 has factory engraved scroll, floral, border patterns on the muzzle and octagonal section of the barrel, the frame, the forend cap, and the buttplate and features an adjustable globe front sight, "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." on top of the barrel which in conjunction with the low serial number suggests the rifle was manufactured in 1883-1888 before the company was sold and reorganized as the Remington Arms Co., "2034" along with "VW" (Vernier and Windgauge?) and "19" on the bottom of the barrel, mid-range Vernier peep sight on the upper tang, the two-line patent marking on the left side of the frame above the smooth trigger, "2034" on the lower tang, a multi-point checkered forearm with steel Schnabel tip, and round-knob pistol grip buttstock with multi-point checkering and a curved sporting rifle buttplate. The bore has been sleeved, and the muzzle is marked "PARKERIFLED/G.B.C."

Rating Definition:

Very good with 75% period refinished blue on the sleeved barrel fading to a brown on the round section, traces of original case colors and blue finish on the action components and otherwise mottled silver-gray patina, distinct markings and engraving, and minor oxidation. The wood is also very good and has minor handling wear on the crisp checkering, some minor scrapes and dings, small chip at the toe, and light edge wear. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The John Fox Collection.
