This beautiful rifle was built by the late gunmaker Ron Ehlert of Duck River, Tennessee. Its overall architecture is more like that of a colonial era smoothbore sporting gun with English lock and furniture, but it has a rifled bore and sights. It may be built from a Jim Chambers' Smooth Rifle parts set (Model RK-7). It appears to have been built for busting hogs given the boar head, bow, and arrow design engraved on the side plate and the boar head, bow, arrow, axe, and hunting horn design engraved on the buttplate tang. It has a silver blade front sight, notch rear sight, "Ron Ehlert" with light floral accents signed on top of the barrel, scroll and border engraving on the lock which appears to be a Chambers "Round-Faced English Flintlock," engraved brass furniture, and brass wire inlaid scroll, shell, and border designs along the beautifully figured maple stock.

Very fine overall as custom made with essentially all of the "antique" brown finish on the barrel, a smooth gray on the lock, light aged patina on the brass, vibrant flame figure and dark finish on the stock, only slight firing marks on the frizzen and barrel at the breech, and minimal handling and storage type wear. Mechanically excellent. Ehlert's rifles are hard to come by.
