Description:

Manufactured in 1915. Standard Colt markings, scarce and desirable double action cylinder with distinctive long flutes, mismatched grips and matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Colt assembled 1,478 Single Action revolvers between 1913 and 1915 that utilized surplus cylinders from the Model 1878 Double Action revolvers. The Model 1878 revolvers had distinctive cylinders with flutes that were 5/16th inch longer than the standard SAA cylinders. The Model 1878 cylinders were altered by Colt to fit SAA revolvers by modifying the bolt stop notches and approaches and the cylinder ratchet. The modified cylinders were then fitted with the half-length Model 1878 cylinder bushing.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 50% plus original blue finish and 30% of the original case colors, mostly contained in the protected areas with the balance a smooth brown patina. There is light pitting on the back strap. The slightly oversize replacement grips are very fine with crisp checkering. Mechanically needs work as locking bolt is broken.
