Description:

The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a blue finish, .45 caliber chambering, barrel length and type of stocks not listed when shipped to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York City on September 27, 1876. The revolver has 20th century floral scroll engraving with fan patterns on the recoil shield, loading gate and top of back strap. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address and the left side of the frame has the two-line patent dates marking. "BJ," presumably the engraver's initials, are marked below the trigger guard serial number. The barrel is unnumbered. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, and cylinder. The back of the left grip panel is ink marked "MAYER." The right grip panel features a relief carved eagle. According to the consignor, this SAA was the sidearm of Captain Joe Brooks of the Texas Rangers.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally engraved, retaining 98% of the silver plating with loss mostly on the ejector rod housing and a few patches of finished over pitting. The engraving is crisp. The slightly undersized grips are fine showing typical hairline age cracking on the bottom, some minor handing marks, crisp carving and attractive color and grain. Mechanically excellent.
