The included copy of a factory letter lists this revolver in a 50 gun shipment to Hartley & Graham in New York City on December 31, 1880, in .45 caliber with a nickel finish. It was subsequently professionally engraved with Cuno Helfricht style scroll, floral, and line engraving patterns and fitted with a pair of pearl grips with scrimshaw buffalo heads on each side and also signed "S. TRAIL." Matching serial numbers are located on the barrel under the ejector housing, side of the cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and back strap, and assembly number "852" is on the loading gate. The frame has the three-line patent marking on the left, and the trigger guard has "45 CAL" on the left at the front.

Very fine as professionally engraved and replated with 98% plus lightly frosted nickel remaining, crisp engraving, and minor handling marks. The grips are very good and have distinct scrimshaw patterns, repaired cracks and slivers absent on the right panel, and attractive natural coloration. Mechanically excellent. Definitely a beautiful antique Colt.
