It has blade and notch sights, "H.M. GILMORE" and "E.L PANCOST" (latter twice, once marked over) on the top of the barrel accented by light engraving, "H.M. GILMORE" again on the lock, dovetail filler block at the breech, a brass bolster, light engraving on the hammer and tail of the lock, plain brass furniture, and nicely figured maple stock with a German fox inlay on the cheek rest, two coordinating ovals on the sides of the wrist, and a Roman nose butt profile. The rifle was built around the 1950s-1970s by Howard Martin Gilmore, originally from Pennsylvania, using an antique barrel first used by Elisha L. Pancost in the mid to late 19th century in Western Pennsylvania. Gilmore was known to reuse and rebore original barrels salvaged from antique rifles.

Rating Definition:

Very good with mottle gray and applied brown patina along the barrel along with some minor pitting and file/tool marks, bright modern case colors on the lock, aged patina on the brass, dark finish and attractive flame figure along the stock, a slight glued tension crack at the rear lock screw on the left stock flat, and general light dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
