Description:

The included Westley Richards factory letter confirms the serial number, Anson & Deeley box lock action, caliber, and that the rifle was shipped in 1904 for Lyon & Co. an agent selling primarily to the Indian market. Blue steel, dovetail lump barrels with ramped beaded blade front and three leaf (one standing, two folding) express notch rear sights with platinum sighting lines, standard maker's marks, left barrel marked "MADE EXCLUSIVELY FOR LYON & LYON, CALCUTTA", and London nitro proofs on the flats. Casehardened A&D box lock action with third fastener (referred to as a "club head extension" in the letter), bushed firing pins, dual triggers and manual sliding tang safety. The receiver is engraved with scenes of tigers and flourishes of scroll. Checkered walnut pistol grip stock and forearm with lightly engraved fittings, blue steel grip cap, raised cheekpiece, and solid rubber recoil pad. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 1/4 inches; length of pull 14 5/8 inches; weight 11 lbs. 10 oz.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period refurbished with 95% of the blue finish, mostly smoothed matting on the rib, legible markings, small nicks and scratches, and some light edge wear. The receiver has 90% plus vibrant, restored case colors with well defined engraving and some small dings. The wood is also fine with well defined, crudely recut checkering, small scattered dings, and a visible hairline crack on the left side of the butt. Mechanically excellent.
