Description:

This original early WWII Remington Arms Model 1903 rifle that was produced in September 1942. Remington Arms started manufacturing these 1903s in May 1941 for Great Britain using the old tooling and machinery from Rock Island Arsenal. After Pearl Harbor, they were held at Remington and issued to both USMC and Army units heading into the Pacific Theater where they saw extensive use. This example is termed a 1903 (Modified) model because it used various wartime manufacturing improvements or shortcuts to speed up production. The barrel is stamped "RA/Ordnance Bomb/9-42". The receiver is marked: "REMINGTON/MODEL 1903/3246605". It has all its original early "milled" Remington "R" marked parts; the complete bolt assembly, barrel bands, trigger housing/floor plate, smooth face buttplate etc., all with their original early Remington green parkerized finish. The early smooth body bolt, cocking knob, sear, trigger, cutoff and complete rear sight have their correct original Remington "blued finish". Fitted with a smooth straight grip stock without reinforcing bolts (however two small brass pins are visible in the area where the bolts would be) with sub-inspection stamps ahead of the floorplate, circled "P" on the inside of the wrist, "crossed cannons" and "FJA" marks on the left side, and smooth steel trapdoor buttplate with a small "R" stamp on the inside of the trap.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus dark original parkerized finish and blue finishes, some scattered surface scratches, edge wear on the barrel bands, cycling marks on the bolt, and a light gray patina on the buttplate. The stock is very fine with scattered small dings, a few larger compression marks, slightly light inspection marks, and some gaps around the upper buttplate tang. Mechanically excellent.
