Description:

This is a rare example of a late production Baby Nambu pistol that was manufactured by the Tokyo Gas and Electric (TG&E) factory in Tokyo with all matching numbers to include the magazine. These TG&E Baby Nambu pistols are rare in that they were produced in very limited numbers and are high sought by the Japanese collectors. The Baby Nambu was never officially approved as a standard officer's sidearm; instead, they were privately purchased by high ranking Japanese Army and Naval officers. The chamber area is stamped with the circled "TG&E" proof, and the Kanji makings are on the right side of the upper receiver over the serial number "5931". The matching serial number "5931" is also visible on the underside of the bolt, the cocking knob, the complete firing pin/striker assembly and the back side of each grip panel. The magazine has a nickel-plated body with an extruded aluminum base that is also numbered "5931". These rare little pistols have a high quality rust blue finish with straw colored small parts and the bolt retaining an overall bright finish. The grips are finely checkered hardwood. These pistols were produced from 1909 to approximately 1923, and it is estimated that only about 550 pistols were ever produced by TG&E; fewer than fifty are known to date.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 50% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge wear showing a dulling oxidized blue finish with some minor spotting in the finish. The front and rear grip straps both shows a darker oxidized tone from handling and use during the war. The top of the barrel also shows some very fine light scratches, that are visible but have not dug into the metal. The smaller parts retain 20% of their straw colors overall. The grips are in very fine condition with a nice dark brown color overall showing distinctive checkering on both sides with only a couple of minor handling marks. A very nice looking and very scarce WWII Japanese TG&E Baby Nambu pistol with all matching numbered parts.
