Description:

The accompanying factory letter states this S&W factory presentation inscribed revolver was shipped on July 13, 1916 and delivered to Harry E. Fudor, no address given. The letter also notes that the revolver is "a special order item, but the invoices for this time period are missing" and therefore no further information is known. The left side of the frame is inscribed "Presented by/SMITH & WESSON/Aug. 1916/THE STAMPEDE." The inscription possibly references the Canadian based wild west show and tournament known as "The Stampede". The first Stampede was hosted in 1912 in Calgary and was held at Sheepshead Bay, New York, in August 1919, the same date in the inscription. With over 100 years of experience the Calgary Stampede continues to entertain and educate visitors at its annual 10 day celebration. The revolver is fitted with target sights. Matching serial numbers are on the butt, right grip frame, cylinder, and barrel. The leather bound and fitted case features a cartridge block holding 45 rounds of .38 special cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Excellent retaining 98% original blue finish showing limited high edge wear and handling marks. There are a few spots of light pitting on the cylinder. 95% plus original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The grips are excellent with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The case is good with worn exterior, absent carrying handle and typical high spot wear on the lining. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
