Description:

This Model 1911A1 semi-automatic pistol was manufactured by Colt Firearms in early 1943 and was one of few pistols assembled by Colt for military contract using commercial parts that had been left over after commercial production ended for the war effort. The commercial frame has had the serial number and "GOVERNMENT MODEL" markings factory scrubbed and then over-stamped with the correct military contract serial number. The left side of the frame has the standard Colt inspection and proofs as well as the "G.H.D." inspection mark under the slide catch and a "P" below the magazine release. The slide is stamped with a "P" between the ejection port and rear sight. The underside of the slide and top of the frame have provisions for the Swartz safety (corresponding holes on the slide and frame). The Swartz safety components are correctly absent. The barrel is stamped with a single "P" on the left side of the lug and "COLT 45 AUTO" on the left side of the chamber. Fitted with checkered Coltwood grips with reinforcing ribs and reinforcing rings around the screws, and full blue "L" marked magazine. With "44" dated "US" embossed Boyt leather holster.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus original dark parkerized finish, scattered surface scratches, crisp markings, and handling marks. The grips are also excellent with mostly sharp checkering, and some small dings. Mechanically excellent. Holster is excellent with verdigris around the metal fittings, some scuffs, tight stitching, and overall solid constructions.
