Description:

According to the included factory letter, this pistol was part of a 1,000 piece shipment to the Navy General Storekeeper at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York on October 25th, 1912. Part of the earliest stage of 1911 development and sales, the branch-specific markings were retired fairly early in the pistol's service life; between the low overall production and the rigors of decades of service and two World Wars, Navy-marked 1911s are scare in any condition. Blade front and round-top notch rear sights, with the two-line, two-block Colt patents and address on the left side of the slide ahead of the circled Rampant Colt, "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and "WGP" (Penfield) on the left side of the frame. Fitted with a long smooth trigger, wide checkered hammer, short grip safety, checkered slide stop and thumb safety, flat mainspring housing with lanyard staple, replacement checkered hardwood grips with diamond patterns around the screws and a later production replacement pinned-base lanyard ring magazine. The replacement barrel is marked "S P" for Springfield Armory on the left side of the lug. Included with the pistol is a Mills holster, constructed from tan canvas with brass hardware.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 75% of the original blue finish, showing bright edge wear, areas of brown and gray patina, mild spotting and light handling marks. The replacement barrel retains about half of the blue, with contact wear and spots of brown among the dark blue. The grips are very good, with some minor chipping and dings on the crisp checkering. The holster is good, with fading of fabric, some mild stains and wear. Mechanically excellent.
