Description:

This is an outstanding, exceptionally rare, all original and unaltered example of probably the rarest early DWM commercial contract Luger: the Model 1900 Bulgarian Luger. It has its original rust blued finish, straw colored smaller parts and checkered walnut grips. Total production has been estimated at approximately 1000 pistols specifically in the serial number range of 20000-21000. This Luger is serial number "20767". It is reported that no more than 3-4 original 1900 Bulgarian contract Lugers are known to exists. Seven rebarreled Model 1900s are also known. This is an extremely rare Luger in this condition as most of these early Lugers were converted to 9 mm prior to or directly after WWI. Most then saw heavy use during WWII where most were captured by the Russians and then overhauled/rebuilt again. Since this is the 1900 model it has all the early features such as the early Bulgarian Crest on top of the chamber area, the dished toggles with the toggle lock, early flat breech block, fast taper barrel, narrow trigger, grip safety and no stock lug. It still has the early/first style DWM markings which are located on top of the front toggle. The safety area is correctly marked with the Bulgarian "Cyrillic" lettering for "FIRE". It has the correct commercial style numbering with the full serial number "20767" on the front of the frame and the last two digits "67" stamped on most of the various smaller parts. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips with the both correctly numbered "67". It is complete with an original tin plated magazine with an unnumbered wooden base. This pistol is pictured and discussed on pages 58 and 59 of the book "Lugers at Random" by Charles Kenyon, Jr.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% of the blued finish and just a hint of wear on a couple of the edges or high spots. The smaller parts retain 75% plus of their straw colors overall. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides and only very minor handling marks. It has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above. This is an exceptional and exceptionally rare DWM Model 1900 Bulgarian Luger pistol. The finest one known!
