Don Allen founder of Dakota Arms started his career as a pilot for Northwest Airlines, and began a stock making business in Northfield, Minnesota in 1972. By 1977 Don and wife Norma had incorporated the business, eventually moving to Sturgis, South Dakota and later renaming the business Dakota Arms. Blue steel, dovetail lump barrels with single bead sight on the smooth concave rib marked "DON ALLEN INC. STURGIS S.DAK", 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, improved cylinder/modified chokes, marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the underside, and Birmingham proofs dated "1985" on the flats. Bright coin finished, scalloped box lock receiver with full coverage scroll and floral bouquet engraving, "DON ALLEN" markings on the sides, trigger plate marked "R.L. RONNIE ENGR. WHITEWOOD S. DAK '85" to the right of the triggers, matching engraved trigger guard, dual triggers, and automatic sliding tang safety. Fancy figured, checkered walnut straight grip stock and splinter forearm with engraved fittings, Anson latch, blank gold initial oval, and checkered bare butt. Second barrel set is also 25 inches, engraved to match with "2" on top of the rib at the breech, with 2 3/4 inch chambers and modified/full chokes. With soft takedown case. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 5/8 inches; length of pull 14 1/8 inches.

Very good with 95% original blue finish on the barrels, scattered small surface scratches, faint trace of oxidation along the rib edge, and some small nicks. The receiver has crisp, detailed engraving and some traces of overrun varnish from the stock. The forearm is missing the tip around the Anson latch, otherwise the wood is excellent with attractive figure, sharp checkering, and just a few small dings. Mechanically excellent. Extra barrel set is very good with 95% original blue finish, small surface scratches, and a visible ding at the left muzzle.
