The included factory letter confirms the model, serial number, caliber, barrel length, finish, and July 30, 1923 date of shipment as a single item to the Anaconda Copper Mine Company of Butte, Montana. The Anaconda mine was bought in 1881 by Marcus Daly from prospector and Civil War Union veteran Michael Hickey. Being a proud Union man Hickey named his claim after reading Horace Greeley's account of how General Grant had surrounded General Lee's forces "like an anaconda". Daly expanded the mine and began full scale smelting operations in partnership with George Hearst, father of William Randolph Hearst. The mining company later expanded to owning the largest copper mine in the world in Chile, another in Mexico, and The American Brass Company. The importance of the mine and its subsidiary companies importance to the state economy is best displayed when the company as a whole ceased operations for a brief period (due to legal disputes) and put nearly 80% of Montana state's labor force out of work. Standard blade front and round top notch rear sights, two-line/two-block address and patent marking on the left side of the slide, caliber notation on the right, Rampant Colt on the left side behind the serrations, smooth trigger, and casehardened hammer with knurled spur. The grip frame is the square butt military pattern with lanyard loop, and checkered Colt banner grips with the Rampant Colt at the centers.

Very fine with 95% bright original blue finish, areas of high point and edge wear, some visible dings and scratches, and strong case colors on the hammer. The grips are also very fine with light handling marks and well defined checkering. Mechanically excellent.
