This massive blunderbuss' barrel flares to 3 1/2 inches at the muzzle and has a large bore. It was most likely mounted as a swivel gun, on a U.S. naval vessel. The only visible marking is "USTATES" branded on the left side of the butt. The barrel has an engraved reinforcement ring just behind the swelled muzzle. The lock has some crude file work at the tail and more refined file work on the frizzen spring. The stock has a bare butt.

Rating Definition:

Fair with a mix of dark brown patina and applied brown finish, moderate pitting, heavy overall wear, repaired barrel tang, cracks mainly in the midsection of the stock, insect damage, chipping concentrated at the toe, and distinct stock marking. Mechanically fine.
