Description:

Establishing their partnership in 1863 and operating out of San Francisco, Frederick Will & Julius Finck were known for manufacturing some of the finest blades in the American West. Measuring 14 3/4 inches in overall length, this Bowie knife is equipped with a 9 7/16 inch single edged clip point blade, with the ricasso bearing the "WILL & FINCK/S.F." address on the left side. The full-tang hilt has German silver fittings, a low profile oval guard, and a set of mostly smooth buffalo horn grip scales with carved florets near the guard and a pearl panel insert on the left. The sheath is of brown leather construction with German silver fittings with "W" over "S" in a heart carved on the back.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the blade showing mostly a smooth grey patina, some scattered light surface pitting, and some evidence of light sharpening/cleaning. The grip is also fine with a few hairline age cracks and some scattered light handling marks. The sheath is good with the fittings showing generally an attractive antique patina with some light verdigris and the leather showing mild wear and period added personalized carving.
