Description:

J.C. Reilly and E.M. Reilly (then an apprentice) moved to 316 High Holborn in August of 1835. This small pistol was retailed by the company and is signed "REILLY" in a banner on the left side of the German silver box lock action and marked with "316 HOLBORN LONDON" on top of the barrel, London proof and view marks at the breech, "1" on the bottom of the barrel and action at the breech indicating it is the first pistol from a pair, and "8" near the toe of the grip. Engraved with scrolls, border patterns, and a sea creature on the hammer. The case is designed for two of these pistols and also contains a barrel wrench, ball mold (marked "280"), cleaning rod, and small powder flask. Based on the fading of the lining, it is evident the second pistol has been absent for a long time.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% faded blue finish, bright German silver, crisp markings and engraving, and minor overall wear. The grip is very fine aside from a thin crack in the right side at the upper tang screw and has lightly aged natural tones, some minor age cracks at the butt, and light handling marks. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are very good and have mostly light to mild storage wear. The barrel wrench and mold have strong niter blue finish.
