Description:

Manufactured c. 1790 and signed "Simpson" on the lock which features a roller on the frizzen spring. The barrel flares to just under 1 1/4 inches at the muzzle (gauge estimated above) and has London proofs on the left, light dot engraving, and a folding "snap" bayonet secured by a sliding catch on the tang. The brass furniture has some light engraving.

Rating Definition:

Fine with attractively aged patina on the brass barrel and furniture, mottled gray and brown patina on the lock and bayonet, distinct markings and engraving, and minor overall wear. The stock is also fine and has several small dings and scratches. Both the lock and bayonet mechanisms are mechanically fine. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
