The makers records indicate that this rifle was completed in circa 1867 for a C. (or L.) Cameron Esq. Browned damascus steel rifled barrels with solid matted rib signed "ALEXr HENRY. 12 SOUTH St ANDREW St EDINBURGH. PATENT 906." front sight ramp with blade sight and rear single notch sight with center line, two ramrod pipes, and brass tipped hardwood rod. Casehardened breech with light scroll on top and engraved silver discs. Casehardened sculpted hammers, each with blued safety latch, and locks with scroll and border engraving and signed "ALEXr HENRY" on each lock. Engraved trigger guard, and checkered double triggers with engraved, sculpted shell trigger plate finial and ramrod insert. Checkered pistol grip walnut stock with engraved trapdoor grip cap, and checkered steel butt plate. With period case with brass screwheads, handle, and blank initial escutcheon, lined in green baize with period maker's label with period Hindi notes written in pencil. Includes a sling, dark hardwood target rod, various brush heads, patch cutter, and a bullet mold numbered to the rifle. Modern hardwood case with brass screwheads, handle, and blank initial escutcheon. Indigo baize interior with aged reproduction period label and includes various tools. Accompanied with a scanned copy of the factory ledgers.

Very good with 80% of the rebrowned finish remaining with some scattered smooth pitting and clear markings. The remaining components including the breech, locks, and hammers, are mostly a smooth grey patina with some traces of original casehardened finish in the protected areas, and some areas of discoloration. The butt plate has several areas of discoloration and heavy pitting on the heel. The refinished wood is very good with numerous scratches and dings, areas of smoothed over checkering, a repair visible to the grip, and wooden plug present to fill the sling attachment hole and another corresponding plug on the rear ramrod pipe. The case is very fine with several handling scratches on the exterior and some slight tearing to the interior. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
