Manufactured in 1897. Single nickel bead sight on the matte concave rib marked "PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CONN. BERNARD STEEL" with 2 3/4 inch chambers, single extractor, and full/full chokes. Casehardened action with standard markings on the water table, dual triggers, and automatic sliding tang safety. The action is engraved with the standard "C" grade pattern featuring fine scroll patterns and Parker Bros. banners and detailed animal scenes of dogs with a setter on the right and a pointer on the left, and a standing deer on the underside. Splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with checkered hard rubber grips cap, fancy scroll bordered checkering, raised tear drop accents, blank initial oval, and a lightly engraved skeleton buttplate on a checkered bare butt. The right side of the buttstock has an inset gold inscription plaque inscribed "Trophy won by Frank E. Davidson/at the St. Laurence Church Bazaar/Chicago 1897/Rev. S. Maloney Pastor". Information on Frank E. Davidson can be found in the 1899 published "Prominent Democrats of Illinois" where he is listed as Superintendent of the Department of Sewers and member of the Board of Local Improvements of the city of Chicago. Born in 1867 in Hillsborough, Iowa Davidson attended Iowa State University (at the time college) and was an accomplished Chicago area engineer and architect. Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .734/.733; minimum wall thickness .026/.029; drop at comb 1 5/8 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; length of pull 14 inches.

Very fine with most of the brown finish remaining on the barrels, slightly softened rib markings, some small scratches, and highly visible Damascus pattern. The action has 45% original muted case colors with the balance aged to a dove gray patina with detailed engraving and more vibrant colors in the protected areas. The wood is fine with scattered small dings. Moderately worn checkering, attractive figure, and several larger dents and bruises. Mechanically excellent.
