Description:

Manufactured in 1939, this pistol was part of a 396 piece shipment to the Naval Supply Depot at Sewalls Point, Virginia, on November 25th of that year. Representing the final shift from the "Transitional 1911" to the 1911A1 that would be America's standard through World War II and beyond, the pistol bears the "ARMY" nomenclature on the frame. Fixed sights, with the two-line, two-date patent and address markings on the left side of the slide divided by the Rampant Colt, "P" on the top, and a matching serial number beneath the firing pin stop. The frame bears the Army 1911A1 nomenclature on the right side, with "P/H" proof/inspector marks around the magazine catch and "X/VP" and "99" on the trigger guard, as well as an "R" in an oval next to the disconnector pin. Fittings include a flat top rear sight, wide knurled hammer, slide catch, thumb safety and arched mainspring housing, short milled trigger, long grip safety, fully checkered grips, period "COLT/45 AUTO" full blue magazine, and a full blue "COLT 45 AUTO" barrel with a "P" on the lug and a small "G" inspector mark number stamped on the underside.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with 95% of the bright original blue finish, showing a thin bright spot on top of the slide and front grip strap, some minor edge wear, and handling marks. The full blued magazine shows a rough texture beneath the bluing around the feed lips. The grips are also excellent, with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
