Description:

This is a solid example of a U.S. Army contract pistol that was produced by the Ithaca Gun Company in late 1943 early 1944. The left side of the slide is marked "ITHACA GUN CO. INC. ITHACA N.Y." and the top of the slide has a single "P" proof in front of the rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "FJA" for Frank J Atwood the US Government inspector and a single "P" proof next to the magazine catch release button. The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial No. and the front end is marked "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" and there is a partial crossed-cannon ordnance proof by the hammer pin hole. It has the correct blued wartime barrel manufactured by the High Standard company and marked "HS" and "P" on the right and left sides of lugs respectively. It has the late production features like serrated slide stop, serrated thumb safety, long grip safety, narrow hammer and serrated, arched mainspring housing. The grips are also the correct wartime versions manufactured by the "Keyes-Fibre" company that have a single five pointed star with a "K" inside, a single mold number both located on the inside of the grips, along with the correct reinforcing ribs. It is complete with one blued "L" marked magazine. Accompanying copies of original shipping records indicate the pistol was shipped on April 10, 1944 to Rock Island Arsenal.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the wartime parkerized finish remaining with slight wear on the edges and high spots overall with some minor thinning on the front grip strap and trigger guard bow and the top of the blued barrel. The grips are in good condition showing some minor denting/flat spot on the right side.
