Description:

Built on a Les Bauska BBK-02 true double square bridge Mauser action and chambered in a legendary caliber that has been the choice of pro-hunters since 1911 and made famous by Ernest Hemingway. The rifle was originally built by Bill Bollinger and Dean Zollinger. The original owner successfully landed several big five animals while on safari. The rifle was then sold and was completely disassembled and underwent a 3 year project making it the custom rifle that it is today. The rifle was restocked by Leroy Barry of Canyon Creek Custom Gunstocks with exhibition Turkish walnut, full barrel pillar bedding, over 20 coats of hand rubbed finish, right handed cheek piece, ebony “Macassar” forend tip, mercury recoil reducers, cross bolts, African classic red Pachmayr pad and Peregrine Custom checkering. The engraving was done by group of master engravers: Rocco Capece and Jean Marie Marten on the receiver and Angelo Bee on the barrel. Profuse engraved scrollwork adorns the casehardened receiver, bolt cocking knob, floorplate and trigger guard. The left side of the front bridge features a gold inlaid lion on an engraved background featuring a world globe map with “CONSERVATION OF” above the Western Hemisphere and “PROTECTION OF” on the Eastern Hemisphere and the Safari Club logo in the middle. The reverse is engraved with the serial number inside a banner. The left side of the rear bridge features a gold inlaid rhino head. The reverse features a gold inlaid cap buffalo head. A gold inlaid elephant is on the floorplate, a gold inlaid African warrior shield with the initials “SCI” is on the trigger guard, and a gold inlaid cheetah head is on the grip cap. The bolt knob has checkered and gold outlined panels. The bolt is jeweled, and the trigger is charcoal blue. The quarter barrel rib has a two leaf sight (one folding and one fixed) with gold sight lines and the caliber designation in gold. There is a hooded ramp front sight with gold band on the hood, a barrel mounted front sling eyelet and “505 Gibbs” engraved on the left side of the barrel at the breech. According to the consignor, the rifle has only been test fired once since the rifle was reassembled by legendary gunsmith Dave Norin. Comes with a full length fitted European rifle case of oak and leather with burgundy interior, a leather and canvas case cover, a brown leather sling, and quick release slings.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine as master embellished and upgraded, retaining 99% plus of the blue and casehardened finishes with the slightest handling evidence and sharp stock checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is excellent.
