Manufactured c. 1881 based on the "A" prefix on the lower tang. The lever has the matching serial number minus the prefix. The rifle has a nickel-silver "Rocky Mountain" blade front sight, adjustable sporting rear sight, "WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT. U.S.A. KENNEDY" ahead of the rear sight, "44 CAL C.F." by the breech, "PAT'D JANY. 7-73/AP.-1(2) MAY 13 & AUG.12-79." on the upper tang, the early serpentine style lever, and smooth stock and forearm with crescent buttplate and empty stock compartment.

Very good with 20% original blue finish, smooth light brown patina on most of the balance, minor oxidation, distinct markings, and mild marks and scratches. The period refinished wood has some darker areas at the upper corners of the wrist, numerous dents and scratches, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
