Description:

Only 38,843 Model 1861 Navy revolvers were manufactured in 1861-1873 compared to around 200,500 of the Model 1860 Army revolvers in 1860-1873. The factory letter indicates this revolver was part of a shipment of eight revolvers in this configuration to W. E. Liston in the care of Hawes & Maxwell. William E. Liston (1813-1879) was an Indiana hardware merchant. The address is listed as Jonesville, Bartholomew County, Indiana, and the date of shipment was June 26, 1861. Reportedly, 210,000 Indiana men fought to defend the Union during the Civil War. The revolver has the standard markings and features, including matching "15" on the barrel, wedge, arbor pin, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and back strap and hand marked in black ink inside the back strap mortise of the grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with 50% original silver plating, strong original case colors on the rear of the loading lever arm, mottled brown patina, mild pitting and oxidation, and general moderate wear. The grip is fine and has moderate lower edge wear, a chip on the heel on the right, and mild scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
