Description:

Manufactured by Edward Barnes & Sons of Sheffield, England c. 1856-1865. The knife shows typical characteristics of Sheffield knives of the era that were manufactured for export to the United States. The overall length with blade extended is 10 1/2 inches with a 6 inch drop point blade. The left ricasso is marked "EDWARD/BARNES/&SONS". The handle shows the edges of the full length tang, floral motif German silver guard and pommel, and rivet retained stag grip scales with German silver inscription plate inset in the left panel. Includes a leather sheath with German silver fittings.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the blade showing mostly a bright grey patina with some scattered patches of light pitting, evidence of sharpening/cleaning, and cleat markings. The guard and pommel show an attractive bright antique patina with the right quillion bent and minimal wear on the grip scales. The sheath is fair with some mild wear and a leather chord/glue repair at the tip.
