Manufactured in 1882, this Model 1878 is nickel plated with a niter blue trigger. "GRANT" is carved into the underside of the right panel while the left panel has been hand marked with the serial number. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address. It has the standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and has a lanyard loop on the butt. The serial number is marked on the butt. The rear cylinder face is marked "Z 1 0 H". The front left of the trigger guard is marked "45 CAL". The factory letter confirms the barrel length, caliber, nickel finish, and type of grip material. It was shipped on March 7, 1882 to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. of Chicago, Illinois.

Very fine. The revolver retains 70% of the original nickel plating with some flaking especially on and near the front of the cylinder. The exposed surfaces have primarily a brown patina with some spots of oxidation. There are some light scratches and small marks. The grips are good with a chip out on the upper edge of the left panel and some thin, aged cracks. The right panel has a more yellow tone with greater variation in the pattern. Mechanically functions fine in double action, slightly out of time, with clear markings.
