Description:

Around 30,000 of these revolvers were manufactured in approximately 1864-1870; most were not this ornate. They utilize front loaded "teat-fire" cartridges designed by Daniel Moore as a work around of the Rollin White patent. The gold plated frame features a profuse floral scroll engraving on a stippled background along with floral blossoms on the recoil shield. The gold plated cylinder features relief scrollwork and a large eagle/shield motif with "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" in a banner. The silver plated barrel features relief scrollwork and floral blossoms. The top of the barrel has the one-line address, and the cylinder has the D. William's one-line patent date. The period case contains a cartridge block holding 50 teat fire cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 99% plus of the original silver plating. The cylinder and frame retain 98% plus original gold plating. Traces of original case colors remain on the hammer. The embellishment is crisp. The grips are also excellent with minimal handling marks and attractive color and grain. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine showing minor handling/storage marks and some typical high spot wear on the lining. Just a stunning exhibition quality embellished Moore's Patent Firearms teat fire revolver. Provenance: The Robert M. Lee Collection.
